Band Blog

I just wanted to check in and fill everyone in on the latest band “stuff”.

There has been some information and rumors going around that are simply untrue and I thought maybe we had better put the correct information out there for you.

First things first.. The Hideaway.. It was not our choice to lose a gig that has been good for us for a long time. There is a new owner there who decided for whatever reason to not honor our contract. They originally said they would, then claimed to not be able to find it.. Our issue was simply that a former member who shall remain nameless had our contracts and refused to give them to us. So, with the help of an attorney, we had a new version drafted just for the Hideaway. They waited until two days before we were scheduled to play to demand a 30% pay cut. It made no sense for us to do that and there was no reason given other than, “I’m just starting out”.. This was all done through a 3rd party because the actual “owner” was never there for any of the face to face meetings.  The whole thing was suspicious from the start.  The funny thing is, after everything was said and done, mysteriously the original contract re-appeared.. Hmmmmm…

In any case, we sincerely apologize for that mess and I’m working hard to get the band back in the Lafayette area. We do have a September date at Champ’s on Earl Ave. in Lafayette. More on that one later but they accepted us happily and we hope it works out for everyone involved.

The rest is cake.. The band is fine. We are learning new material and putting together a complete new show. We will honor every contract and every gig on our books for this year and already have some shows in the works for next year. We are better than ever and we think you will agree when you hear us. We are excited about the new lineup and think you will be too.

Thanks and un-thanks go out to those deserving and they know who they are.

The Snake Charmers  are alive and well..

Recording/Band Blog..

First of all we would like to thank everyone for coming out to see us on St. Patrick’s Day in Frankfort.  It was great to see everyone and we had a great time.

At this time we would like to announce the retirement of long time bandmate/bass player-Jeff Batta. Jeff has resigned his position. Jeff has been with us for a long time and we wish him well in his future endeavors. Thanks for everything Jeff!

With that change, effective immediately, Gary Smith has accepted our offer to join and be a full-time member of The Snake Charmers! Gary has already been a big part of the “album project”. Gary is a talented keyboard player and we are lucky to have him. Gary will take over on Keys and the one and only Dan Duncan will take over the bass. Dan as you all know is multi-talented and is quite comfortable on the bass.

We are now focused on this change. The new lineup will start in April at the Hideaway. This will be a smooth transition and we hope to see everyone in Lafayette for that show.

Once we get through this we will get back to the recording project. I personally hate to put that on the back burner again but these changes demand our attention and focus.

That’s all for now.. Until next time..

Recording Blog

I’ve actually had a request for another installment of this “blog”.

That’s good news because it means someone is actually reading it!

The project is ongoing and progress is being made. TP, Dan, & I are still hard at it. Although it’s a slow process, we are working our way through it song by song. It’s a lot of work but it’s truly a labor of love for us. Although we’ve always been close friends & bandmates, I think we’ve all gained a newfound mutual respect for each other as we air out new ideas and brainstorm our way through this. I would also like to mention that the one and only Gary Smith has graciously agreed to help us on this project. Gary is a fantastic keyboard player and a great guy as well. We are thrilled to have him on our team.

Lastly (for now), soon we will start preparing for the upcoming show in March. We are of course excited to play out again and we hope to see all of you then.

The Snake Charmers Recording Blog..

The recording process is going well albeit a few minor set-backs..

Terry has been out of state quite a lot so far this year. However, Dan, TP, & I have been working diligently 2-3 nights a week and some weekends as well writing, arranging, & recording the new material. Needless to say, we are jazzed about this project and are determined to see it through. We sincerely hope all our families, friends, and fans are happy with the final product.

We will update this “blog” as we go forward and keep everyone posted on progress that is made. Obviously we are also anxious to get back into a “live” setting. We appreciate all your patience. We will return in March and hope to see all of you then.

2012 is going to be a good year for The Snake Charmers. There are new changes and products that are TBA but we’ll keep you posted as they happen.

Until next time..
